3DS
Nintendo's 3DS was a handheld console first released in early 2011. The successor to the DS, the 3DS featured backward compatibility with older DS games and a stereoscopic 3D display. More than just a gaming console, the 3DS also supported internet capability and popular media apps like Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube. Games from older systems could be downloaded via the Nintendo Network, while augmented-reality games were made possible by the use of a 3D camera. Popular games for the 3DS include The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Super Mario 3D Land, and 3D Streets of Rage 2. A larger version of the console, dubbed the 3DS XL, was released in 2012, and production of the 3DS was discontinued in late 2020.
