Game Boy

While hand-held electronic games had existed since the 1970s, Nintendo revolutionized the concept with a true cartridge-based console system.Released in Japan in April of 1989 and in the United States in July of the same year, the Game Boy featured several innovations over Nintendo's earlier Game & Watch series. The most notable was its use of interchangeable cartridges, an adjustable dot matrix screen, and adjustable audio. Many officially-licensed and third-party accessories were produced for the Game Boy within its first few years of existence. These included carrying cases, hard-shell cases, the Game Boy Camera, and, of course, a link cable for multiplayer play.Boasting classic games such as Tetris, Super Mario Land, Donkey Kong, and the Pokemon series, the Game Boy remained in production until 2003. Later iterations included the Game Boy Pocket, Game Bot Light and Game Boy Color, though for gamers of a certain generation, the original reigns supreme.
