Intellivision

The Intellivision was a home console introduced by Mattel Electronics in 1979 and remained the company's only video game console until the release of the HyperScan in 2006. Designed to compete with the Atari 2600, the Intellivision was marketed as a graphically superior machine that offered an arcade-like experience—or as its advertisements stated, "the closest thing to the real thing." The Intellivision was comprised of two separate modules. The Master Component was the basic system, while the Keyboard Component allowed the Intellivision to be used as a home computer. However, only about 4,000 Keyboard Components were manufactured, and the Intellivision was best known as a gaming console. Master Components were branded and distributed by various companies, including Mattel, Sylvania, and Sears. Over 100 games were made for the Intellivision, including NFL Football, NBA Basketball, Space Hawk, BurgerTime, Demon Attack, Atlantis, and Advanced Dungeons and Dragons: Treasure of Tarmin. More than 3 million Intellivision units were sold before it was discontinued in 1990.
