Turbo Grafix 16

The TurboGrafx-16 was a home gaming console produced by NEC Home Electronics in the late 1980s and early 1990s. First released in Japan in 1987 and available in North America two years later, the TurboGrafx-16 was the first console marketed in the 16-bit era—though it actually utilized a modified 8-bit processor with a 16-bit color encoder. A delayed entry into North American markets left the TurboGrafx-16 competing with Sega's Genesis and Nintendo's SNES, and the system struggled to gain a foothold. Several add-ons and variants were produced to extend the console's lifespan—including the TurboGrafx-CD attachment, the Arcade Card, and the SuperGrafx—but the system was out of production by 1994.  While the TurboGrafx-16 failed to make a significant footprint in gaming history, titles like R-Type, Bonk's Adventure, Bomberman '93, and Devil's Crush are fondly remembered.
