Playstation 2

Released in 2000, the PlayStation 2 was Sony's second generation of home console gaming systems. The follow-up to the wildly successful PlayStation, the PlayStation 2 (PS2) featured several upgrades over the original. These included DVD playback capability, an optional internet network adapter, and full backward compatibility with original PlayStation games and DualShock controllers. Several brand and third-party accessories were also available for the PS2, including a DVD/CD-player remote, a keyboard and mouse, the EyeToy camera, microphones, and various light gun controllers. The PS@ Slim was introduced in 2004, and the PS2 remained in production through 2013. The PS2 went head-to-head-to-head with Microsoft's Xbox, Nintendo's GameCube, and Sega's Dreamcast. Despite a high level of competition, the PS2 became the highest-selling home console of all-time, with more than 155 million units shipped worldwide. Titles like Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Tekken Tag Tournament, Shadow of the Colossus, Kingdom Hearts, and the Guitar Hero series make the PS2 a system that is still widely played today.
