Dreamcast

First released in Japan in 1998 and in North America the following year, the Dreamcast proved to be Sega's final home console. The Dreamcast featured several novel innovations, including onboard four-controller support, internet capability, programmable memory cards, and an optional broadband adapter. Entering the market before the PlayStation 2 and the Xbox, the Dreamcast was initially popular. However, that popularity quickly declined as the PS2 and Xbox took hold of the market. Production was halted in 2001, and just over nine million Dreamcast consoles were sold. While the system was largely a failure, games like Jet Set Radio, Shenmue I and II, Skies of Arcadia, NFL 2K1, and Sonic Adventure were incredibly well-designed and remain prized pieces for modern Dreamcast owners.
